About Us

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading samba dance and culture to the people of New York City.

Our mission is to create an inclusive community for learning and engagement through samba dance workshops, cultural events, artist residencies and educational programs that highlight the profound connections between samba, the body positivity movement, and the African diaspora. We strive to create spaces where individuals can explore the rhythm, movement, and stories that make samba an enduring symbol of joy, resilience, and cultural pride.

Through our workshops and events, we aim to raise awareness of samba’s roots in Afro-Brazilian culture, tracing its development as a fusion of African traditions, Indigenous Brazilian elements, and European influences. By teaching samba, we not only offer a fun and energetic activity but also facilitate a deeper understanding of the historical and social contexts from which this powerful cultural expression emerged.

At NYC Samba, we are committed to bridging cultures and fostering cross-cultural dialogue, using samba and Brazilian arts as tools for community-building, empowerment, and mutual respect. Our vision is to promote cultural exchange, celebrate diversity, and honor the rich legacies that shape samba and the African diaspora globally.
